New program to strengthen repair preparedness for fibre cables in the Baltic Sea
Tykoflex, together with Baltic Offshore, is leading an EU-funded project aimed at strengthening and scaling up repair preparedness for submarine fibre-optic cables in the Baltic Sea. The project is carried out within the EU programme “How repair preparedness can stimulate resilient and diversified fibre optic cable systems”, funded through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Digital).
The initiative will develop a more scalable and future-proof model for how the region can rapidly mobilise resources when incidents occur. The work includes strengthening material readiness, developing training for advanced fibre-optic repair, and creating models for how vessels and barges can be released and adapted when multiple simultaneous outages take place.
Minister for Civil Defence Erik Slottner says:
“Strengthening repair capability in the Baltic Sea directly increases our resilience and reinforces Sweden’s digital independence by creating more alternative routes when incidents or disruptions occur.”
Ongoing updates about the project will be published at: www.subsearesilience.com
